Why We Love Slow Cooker BBQ Kielbasa Bites

  • Makes An Easy Hot Appetizer For A Group – This recipe is a kid friendly and adult friendly option. I made a double batch of this recently to share with a large group of Girl Scout leaders, and very little was left at the end even though we had a full spread of items to choose from. The slow cooker can keep it warm on the table which is great for anytime you have people grazing.
  • Budget Friendly – Smoked sausage is a pretty budget friendly option, allowing you to feed a crowd without spending a ton of money.
  • Can Also Be Dinner – Serve over rice with a vegetable on the side, and dinner is served!

Slow Cooker Kielbasa Bites Variation Ideas

Try different BBQ sauces – Different types of bbq sauce are going to effect this recipe a lot. Try a bottle that’s sweet, tangy or even spicy if that’s what your family likes.

Add some spice – Try adding a dash of hot sauce, a little red pepper flake, or a few squeezes of siracha to give the whole dish a little heat.

Swap out the sausages – You can use almost any type of smoked sausage in this recipe. I have found that the four packs of chicken sausage work really well, as does the all beef sausage.

The turkey kielbasa is ok, but not my favorite as the texture felt more like a hot dog then a sausage with the brand my store had. Since we use multiple packs of sausage, you can also mix the flavors of sausage you choose.

You could also use hot dogs or mini cocktail sausages like I did in my slow cooker BBQ lil’ smokies recipe. My little smokies recipe is pretty similar to this recipe, but makes a smaller portion then this recipe does and uses the sausages that are most common for pigs in a blanket.

Can I Make Smoked Sausage Ahead Of Time?

I recommend putting all the ingredients in the slow cooker, and then putting the slow cooker bowl into the refrigerator covered with a lid. You can mix up the sausage up the sausage up to 24 hours in advance as long as you store it covered in the refrigerator.

How Long Will Crock Pot BBQ Smoked Kielbasa Bites Last?

Expect this smoked sausage will last for about 3-4 days if stored in the refrigerator in a covered airtight container.

A lot of companies will make smoked chicken sausages or other types of smoked sausage that are 12 or 14 ounces. This recipe doesn’t have to be exact, it’s ok if you grab two packs and it’s 24 ounces of meat.
You’ll want to consider how many people you are feeding carefully. I have easily doubled this recipe in my 6 quart slow cooker without issues, but it does take a little longer to warm up.
If you are pinched for time you can heat the sausage and all the other ingredients all the way through, then just add it to the slow cooker to keep it warm at the party. I strongly recommend beginning to heat the slow cooker while you are heating the sausage on the stove to keep the sausage warm enough when you add it to the slow cooker.
